Profile of PUSPEM Foundation Pusat Studi Pengembangan Masyarakat (PUSPEM) Center for Community Development Studies Established on 27 December 2001 in Jakarta, Center for Community Development Studies (PUSPEM) was legalized on 14 January 2003 by activists, academicians, intellectuals and professionals that see potency of pluralism and dynamic Indonesian community since reformation era. It has extensive implication in relationship between community and state, development paradigm and political paradigm that full of change demands. Basic Problems: Stagnant reformation process;
- Existing old paradigm of social development
- In existing common platform to build vision and mission of future Indonesia
- Rhetorical democratic culture.
Social Problems:
- Nation disintegration threat
- Economic reconciliation
- In existing pluralism mentality in diversity
- Weakness of social institutions, law and social morality.
Basic Ideas:
- New paradigm needs to assure equitable and civilized human principles
- Development as process of Indonesian people welfare and dignity.
- Create fraternity and solidarity of nation spirit as national basic unity.
- Keep environment in Indonesian community
- Strengthening civil society for civilized democracy process.
PUSPEM Roles:
- Building collective awareness for resurgence of dignified nation that has capacity to receive challenge in new era civilization.
- Resurrecting community initiative to take role actively in developing equal and democratic power.
- Developing basic potency, genuine community-based as social development capital in the future.
Vision:
New community awareness building to prioritize intelligence, mind and attitude improvement for civil society that is religious, humanist, solid, democratic and having social justice to strengthen existence and autonomy as dignified nation. Mission:
- Study and assessment of community basic potency based on nation plurality.
- Community empowerment through capacity and autonomy improvement in aspects of economy, social, culture, politic and management.
- Fully support to democratization and openness as condition to develop creativity, equal right and opportunity.
- Helping community in advocacy activities.
Mission Description; Participants: 1. Direct Participants a) Community infrastructure: religion group, community group. b) Individual: figure of religion, figure of community, figure of youth, farmer, fisherman, businessman and trader.
2. Non Direct Participants a) -Policy makers b) -DPRD, DPR, DPD / MPR c) -Social institution / organization d) -International organization. Services: 1. Non Direct Services - Study and assessment of reality development in community - Giving advocacy in central and regional to struggle, improve and empower community basic potency. - Evaluating & analyzing policies and ideas related to community empowerment. - Doing research and developing economy, social, culture and politic. - Improving capacity and community knowledge in aspect of economy, social, culture and politic. - Proposing revision or completing legislation rules to support development and improvement of community activities. 2. Direct Services - Training to improve capacity of knowledge and management in community and community group. - Assisting to increase participation and actualization of community roles. - Assisting to develop facilities and increase community environment quality. 3. The Main Mission - Giving priority to autonomous, initiative and community awareness - Omitting difference of ethnic, religion, social, culture and geography. - Diversity appreciation. - Giving priority to integrity, partnership and unity. - Giving priority to democratic values through discussion - Giving priority to community empowerment. Strategic Activity Programs: Referring to the above vision and mission, strategic programs that could be done are: 1. Division of Analysis and Assessment - Policy study and analysis on development model. - Policy study and analysis on democracy and human right development. - Study and analysis on community infrastructure. 2. Division of Community Empowerment Workshop, training and extension to improve capacity of group management and community infrastructure. 3. Division of Social Control Social control for policy maker and implementor 4. Division of Advocacy - Giving advocacy to community and group. - Giving advocacy about labor. 5. Division of Environment Developing facilities and infrastructure for community environment 6. Division of Multimedia and Production House - Making media activities by increasing partnership with television, radio and journal. - Preparing programs related to proposed activities to media - Making documentary films related to institutional programs. 7. Division of Education - Providing free education to help drop out children and children as natural disaster victims - Providing non-formal education (training based) to children on the street and natural disaster victims.
